HOUSTON (WPVI) -- A new study has found a link between high levels of sugar in the typical American diet, and the risk and spread of breast cancer.

This is the first study to look at the direct effect of sugar consumption on the development of breast cancer.

The research was conducted in mice at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The team believes that sugar increases certain enzymes and fatty acids in breast cancer cells.
