Fire crews rescue man trapped under El train in Frankford

A man in his 40s had to be rescued after he fell off a train platform and became trapped under an El train in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. (WPVI)

A man in his 40s had to be rescued after he fell off a train platform and became trapped under an El train in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. Saturday on the 5200 block of Frankford Avenue.

Police say the victim was struck by a train after falling off the platform.

Firefighters worked for 30 minutes, before freeing him from under the train.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

SEPTA officials are investigating on why the man fell off the platform.
