HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A former state lawmaker who heads Pennsylvania's third most populous county says he's running for state attorney general.

Josh Shapiro told The Associated Press on Monday that he'll make a formal campaign announcement Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Democrat is chairman of Montgomery County's commissioners.

He also is Gov. Tom Wolf's appointee atop the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

He's joining a crowded field of would-be candidates vying to succeed the embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane in the November election.
