SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A South Philadelphia man has been ordered to complete a rehab program after being charged with hitting his ex-girlfriend's dog with a baseball bat.

The Pennsylvania SPCA says 41-year-old Andrew Wallace was arrested after he hit the Pit Bull mix dog, named Ruby, with a bat in the left leg back on September 6, causing severe injuries.

As part of an agreement, Wallace has been ordered to complete an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, participate in anger management courses, perform community service, and pay $2,500 dollars for Ruby's medical care.

If he fails to complete the program, he'll go to trial.

Ruby has remained in the care of her owner, and is currently recovering at home.
