The Delaware Department of Transportation is warning drivers about highway conditions because of the winter weather.

Transportation officials said in a statement Monday that snow is falling throughout the state and that sleet and freezing rain are expected to follow.

Officials are asking drivers to take their time and use extra caution.

Transportation officials say up to five inches of snow and sleet are predicted in Sussex County and that up to three inches are predicted in both New Castle and Kent counties.

Transportation officials say they are plowing and treating roadways as needed.
