Mayor: Car hit trying to beat CSX train across intersection

PAULSBORO, N.J. -- Officials say a freight train hit a car in southern New Jersey, dragging it several hundred feet.

Paulsboro Mayor Gary Stevenson tells NJ.com that the driver unsuccessfully tried to cross the intersection before the CSX freight train engine Tuesday in Gloucester County.

Stevenson says antifreeze appeared to be leaking from the car. The train also sustained some damage.

No injuries were reported in the crash. The Paulsboro driver was walking and talking when emergency crews arrived. His identity is not being released.

Officials say emergency crews are working to remove the car from the tracks. The car is expected to be towed away.

The engine appeared to have been coupled to another engine. No other rail cars were being pulled at the time.
