Chester High School student charged in school bus shooting

Police are trying to piece together what led up to a shooting that left a student hospitalized.

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Chester High School student has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a student hospitalized.

Police say 16-year old Josue Fernandez surrendered on Friday, accompanied by his attorney.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 12th and Highland streets.

Police say Fernandez brought a gun on a school bus. When he got off, police say he opened fire hitting another teenager in the buttocks.

The victim was taken to Crozier-Chester Medical Center for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Fernandez is being charged as an adult with assault and other offenses.

He is being held in lieu of 10 percent of $500,000 bail.
