One man is dead and a woman and child hospitalized after a head-on crash that shut down Martin Luther King Drive in both directions.

FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- One man is dead and a woman and child hospitalized after a head-on crash that shut down Martin Luther King Drive in both directions in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.

The crash happened at 8:21 a.m. Thursday near Sweetbriar Drive.

Police tell Action News a man traveling in the northbound outer lane of the drive crossed the yellow lanes, and his vehicle collided head-on with a blue Chevrolet Traverse traveling south in the inner lane.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 32-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl were in the Chevrolet.

Both were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital to be evaluated. Police said the woman was suffering from knee pain.

An initial report on the investigation indicated police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Both sides of MLK Drive were shut down as police continued to investigate.
