Man arrested in murder of girlfriend in Wilmington

WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman in New Castle County.

Police say Robert Smith, 49, of N. Tatnall Street killed his girlfriend, 45-year-old Inga Young.

Police responded around 4:16 p.m. Thursday to the 2300 block of North Tatnall Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

After Young's body was discovered, police identified Smith as a suspect, but he fled the area before they arrived in the victim's vehicle.

Later in the evening, police spotted Smith driving on I-95.

They began chasing him until he crashed his car in the 1500 block of Linden Street.

Smith was transported to Wilmington Hospital for minor injuries.

He is now in police custody and facing numerous charges including first-degree murder.
