PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Country music superstar Carrie Underwood surprised a local military family Monday night before her concert at the Wells Fargo Center.

The singer partnered with Operation Homefront to thank the Martin family for their service.

They said they didn't expect her to walk out.

"We really thought we were just going to a concert," Jonathan Martin said.

The couple was very thankful for the acknowledgement.

"Being a military spouse is tough and it's really nice to hear the appreciation," Cara Martin said.

Underwood spoke of her appreciation to Jonathan and his family.

"It is nice to be able to say thank you, for your whole family really because they're your support unit, but for what you do for us," Underwood said.

Carnival Cruise Line also surprised the family with a cruise.

They said it's the perfect surprise, because they never got a chance to go on a honeymoon due to deployments.
