A gas leak prompted evacuations in Newark, Delaware Tuesday morning.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A gas leak has prompted evacuations in Newark, Delaware.

Firefighters were called to the unit block of North Chapel Street at 8:36 a.m. Tuesday.

Action News is told a contractor working near the Hot Bagels Café struck a high-pressure gas line.

Businesses and residences in the area were evacuated as Delmarva Power crews responded to the scene and shut off the gas supplying the ruptured line.

There were no reports of injuries.
