DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Delaware County congregation held Palm Sunday services, despite a fire that badly damaged its church a day before.

Thanks to the mayor of Darby Borough, the Ever Abundant Life International Church was able to celebrate Palm Sunday at the borough's new recreation center.

Fire broke out early Saturday morning at the church on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue in Darby Borough.

The church along with the Creative Minds Learning Center and Christian Academy, which is connected to the church, suffered smoke and water damage.

But church members told Action News they are determined to rebuild.

"We understand that even though the fire was unexpected and it was a shock to our system when we initially saw it, we know that God is still going to work everything out for our good in the end," church elder Simone Crump said.

The pastor told Action News he hopes to be able to hold services at the church in about 30 days.

There's no word yet on what the daycare center will do Monday.
