BASS RIVER TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A forest fire forced the closure of portions of the Garden State Parkway in Burlington County.

It was shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday when a fire started along the parkway near exit 50 in New Gretna, Bass River Township.

The New Jersey Fire Service tells Action News the fire scorched 50 acres.

Three aircraft and more than two dozen firefighters fought the flames.

As of 9:30 p.m., the fire was 100 percent contained, officials say.

At one point, the exit 50 ramp and one southbound lane of the Garden State Parkway was closed. Both have since reopened.
