PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A typical trip to the grocery store turned into a harrowing ordeal for a 75-year-old Mayfair woman.

It happened just before 10 a.m. Dec. 31 along the 7100 block of Montague Street.

"Seventy-five-year-old female walking home with two bags of groceries gets approached by a Hispanic male who decides to rob her," said Santo Montecalvo with the Citizens Crime Commission. "So she struggled to fight with him, and during that fight he decides to shoot her in the face."

The suspect fled the scene in a white 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima with a moon roof.

"It also had damage to the font of the grill on the NIssan sign. It already had that," said Montecalvo. "There's damage on the passenger side door."

Incredibly the woman went home, put her groceries away, then told her husband she had been shot in the face.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment and released a few days later.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $6,000 reward in this case.

"The FOP is going to pay $5,000 for just the arrest of the individual," said Montecalvo.

The other $1,000 will be rewarded upon the conviction of the person responsible.
