WEST KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- The 35-year-old father who is in critical condition after being carjacked and shot while waiting to pick up his 13-year-old son has been identified.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday on 2000 block of North Bodine Street in Philadelphia's West Kensington section.

Samara Ortiz says each day her brother-in-law Metro Sywkiw comes after work to pick up his son, who she watches for about an hour after school.

"The two perpetrators approached him, drug him from the car forcefully, and then struck him in the head, shot him, and then fled with the vehicle," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The suspects took off in his 2016 Dodge Ram pickup. They left the father of three bleeding in the street.

Sywkiw was wounded in the neck, and police took him to Episcopal Hospital. He was later taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

Officers found the stolen pickup truck six blocks away on North Randolph Street.

The truck is being checked for finger prints, and other evidence.

Investigators say that's unusual and they don't know a motive yet other than the pickup being a brand new 2016 model.

Samara says, the "Doctor said he will be fine, so praying that he will be fine."

Police are checking the nearby surveillance cameras to get more details on the suspects.
