A car explosion in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia sent a driver to the hospital.

PORT RICHMOND (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a motorist is hospitalized after a leaking propane tank exploded inside a car in Port Richmond.

It happened before 2 p.m. Wednesday near Richmond Street and Wheatsheaf Lane.

Video from Chopper 6 HD showed the burned frame of a light-colored sedan.

Parts from the car were lying on the road. The vehicle appeared to have been incinerated.

First responders took the driver to Temple University Hospital. There was no immediate word on that person's condition.

Police remained on the scene investigating the incident.
