Philadelphia Flyers center Scott Laughton was injured in the first period of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs first round.

With 3:49 left in the first, the game was paused as medical personnel attended to the 21-year-old Laughton.

Seconds earlier, Laughton tried to keep the puck away from Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson when he fell into the lower portion of the boards.

A neck brace was placed on Laughton.

The Capitals and Flyers tapped their sticks in unison.

Laughton was then carted away on a stretcher as fans in the Wells Fargo Center cheered in support.

He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital for precautionary reasons. Flyers say all tests are negative, but he will stay overnight.

The Flyers went on to defeat the Capitals 2-1.

Washington leads the series 3-1
