Bensalem firefighter returns home after falling through roof battling fire
BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- A firefighter injured after falling through a roof while battling a fire in Bucks County this past weekend has been released from the hospital.
Bensalem Township Firefighter/EMT Nick Weaver was released from Jefferson University Hospital on Tuesday, fire officials say.
"[He] is home resting comfortably," Bensalem Fire Rescue tweeted.
Fire crews were called around 9:10 a.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of Tennis Avenue in Bensalem.
Officials say Weaver was fighting the fire with the Nottingham Fire Department when he fell from the third-story roof.
"Weaver was ventilating the roof of a dwelling when he fell approximately 30' to 35'," Bensalem Fire Rescue wrote on their Facebook page.
Weaver suffered fractures to his back as well as facial lacerations. He was taken to Aria Health Torresdale and then transferred to Jefferson University Hospital.
On Monday evening, Bensalem Fire Rescue said Weaver had "a good day." They say he was able to get out of bed and take a walk.
"The doctors and nurses are amazed at how well he's doing," they tweeted.
The Nottingham Fire Department says Nick's fiancee was by his side through the recovery.
The fire appeared to have started in a second-floor bedroom, which quickly spread to the attic, officials say.
The sole occupant of the home suffered minor burns to both feet.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious.
