OCEAN CITY, N.J. (WPVI) --Crowds returned to the boardwalk for Memorial Day Weekend, enjoying the staples of rides, fudge and good times in Ocean City, New Jersey.
For the Shields girls and their friends from Fort Washington it's a welcome break from a grueling school year.
"No offense to any of my teachers, like I love school, but vacation is amazing," said Anne Shields.
"It's fun to come down with our family, friends and have fun," said Quinn Shields.
A beach ball drop kicked off the holiday weekend in Atlantic City.
The water was cold and beach a bit breezy, but the sun is what lured the Turner family from Southwest Philadelphia.
"It was nice out. I got the kids from school early and I just brought them to the beach," said Shyrella Turner of Southwest Philadelphia.
"Everyone here probably thinks it's cold because it's 70 degrees, but we're from Buffalo so were enjoying life cause its 70 degrees and sunny," said Joel Santana of Buffalo, New York.
In Sea Isle City, sidewalks were crammed once again with smiling vacationers anxious to get the summer started.
Outdoor and indoor tables were full at the Princeton Bar and Grill in Avalon.
The good weather served up twice as many customers as this day last year.
"People are psyched. Twenty-one days of rain. We're happy. The shore's finally back," said Greg Meredith of Princeton Bar and Grill.
Across the shore points, summer is back, and Pennsylvania-native Brooke Nardo and her husband from Toronto wouldn't miss it.
"This is the place where I associate friends, family, happiness. Just a good time in general," said Nardo. "And this is where I associate the summer to be."
