Locals, visitors find ways to beat heat in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It was pretty uncomfortable in the city Saturday, but locals and visitors alike found their own way to beat the heat.
After a morning of fishing at the hatchery at Pleasant Hill Park in Northeast Philadelphia, the heat had gotten the best of some anglers.
"It's really hot! I want to go home and swim in my pool," said Sara Visconto of Bridesburg.
"We emptied out the milk carton and brought a big jug of water to keep us cool," said Adam Visconto of Bridesburg.
For kids, some nice, cold water ice was a welcome treat, and for their dad this hot weather is a welcome change.
"Instead of beating the heat, I thought we'd embrace it after all this rain that we had," said Greg Clark of Port Richmond. "I put the air conditioning in yesterday, and it hasn't turned off since."
No air conditioning? No problem for Lea Traktman from Brooklyn, New York.
We found Lea and her family in Washington Square, wrapping up a morning of sweltering sightseeing.
"One's jumping in, the rest of us are going to wait for the pool at the hotel," said Paul Traktman of Brooklyn, New York.
But not everyone was having fun in the sun.
A construction crew spent the afternoon moving bricks and sand with the sun beating down.
"It's like somebody hit a switch and it got hot all of a sudden. But we deal with it," said John Tripodi, Tripodi Cement Contractor.
On a day like today, one tour guide's job is to inform guests, all while keeping himself and his horse, "Chipper," nice and cool.
"We keep the horses hydrated, we keep ourselves hydrated. We look for as much shade as we can for the horses. Customers - we put the tops up," said Mike Engler, 76 Carriage.
