From cucumbers to ice cream, every year thousands of products are recalled due to safety concerns.

And a new report says the FDA is too slow to act. In some cases, it's led to consumers being at risk of illness and even death, weeks after the agency was aware of potential contamination.

The FDA has responded saying thousands of recalls were handled within less than a week, but there were some that took longer.

The agency says it is taking steps to address the problem.
