Our summer scorcher continues and sadly it doesn't seem there's very much relief ahead.

A company called GreenPath has rounded up a bunch of ways to keep cool in a heatwave - without frying your budget.

First - keeping the house comfortable. They say there's actually a right way to use fans to cool air more effectively.

Besides making sure windows and blinds are drawn during the day, use two fans in your windows - one to push hot air out, and the other to bring cool air in.

Next, try visiting a nice, cool spot that won't cost a fortune such as the library, where there might even be free fun for the kids - like storytime. It gives you an excuse to keep up your summer reading.

Or catch up on new films as movie theaters are always nice and cool. Try to catch a matinee - they cost less and it's a good way to get out of the midday sun.

GreenPath also recommends switching from Incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent ones since they use less energy and emit less heat.

In the kitchen, avoid turning on the oven to cook and your house will keep much cooler.

Put bottles of water in the freezer. You can use them to cool yourself off and if you are heading out, jsut grab one - the water melts slowly and stays extra cold.

Finally - freeze your pillowcase! Pop it back on before you go to bed. Apparently this is an amazing way to stay nice and cool when it's hard to sleep on a hot night.
