Philadelphia police say a child may have been inside a van that was used as a getaway vehicle after a shooting in the West Oak Lane section.

WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a child may have been inside a van that was used as a getaway vehicle after a shooting in the West Oak Lane section.

Police were called to the 7200 block of Forest Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived to find a man who had been shot multiple times. Detectives believed he managed to run from the scene after being shot.

He was rushed to the hospital and brought into surgery. He is now in stable condition.

Investigators believe he was either getting into or out of his vehicle when he was shot.

"All nine shell casings are inches or feet away from the vehicle that the victim was entering or exiting when he was shot," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "Which is an indication the shooter walked right up on the victim and, from point-blank range, fired at least nine shots."

At least three of those shots hit the victim.

Investigators say the van was white or light-colored, with a woman behind the wheel and a child inside.
