WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- A toddler has been reunited with his mother after he was found wandering alone in a park in Wilmington, Delaware.

Police say the mother left the child in the care of his step father, who is believed to have had him in Speakman Park.

The circumstances surrounding how the child was lost remain under investigation at this time, but no foul play is suspected.

Officers responded around 6:02 p.m. Monday to Speakman Park, located on the 200 block of East 30th Street.

Arriving officers located the boy, around 2-3 years of age, wearing a purple shirt, blue-and-red plaid, cargo shorts and blue sneakers.

Following an extensive search of the park and surrounding area, officers were unable to locate a parent or guardian.

The boy was taken to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital for evaluation.

Police later located his mother and the two were reunited.
