IONE, Calif. (WPVI) -- Some inmates at one Northern California prison have a new job.

Tender Loving Canines just started an inmate training program at Mule Creek Prison in Ione.

The convicts will train pups to be service dogs for veterans and children with autism.

It's been decades since many of the inmates have even seen a dog, let alone been able to pet and play with one.

They say the dogs have brought them a new sense of purpose.
