SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. -- A Pennsylvania toddler escaped serious injury when she fell about 20 feet from a second-floor balcony at a Jersey Shore motel.

Seaside Heights police say the 2-year-old girl from Reading fell around 8 p.m. Saturday at the Skyview Manor Motel. They say a parent was with her when she slipped through a gap in an ornamental railing.

The girl had undisclosed minor injuries and was conscious and crying when family members got to her moments later. Authorities say the girl was hospitalized overnight for observation, but was expected to be released on Sunday.

The child's name has not been released.

No charges have been filed in the incident. But authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
