Global Leadership Academy Charter new school year

PARKSIDE (WPVI) -- It was a momentous day for the youngest students in the Parkside section of Philadelphia.

The Global Leadership Academy Charter school welcomed its kindergarten class this morning.

Proud parents helped their little ones get situated in their new environment.

For many this was a bittersweet day.

"First day, it was beautiful, my daughter got to smile and enjoy her first day of kindergarden."

"It's very emotional for me. I'm just happy and excited for the new experience she's about to come through.

Students in grades one through eight got a jumpstart on the new school year last week.

They started classes at Global Leadership Academy Wednesday.
