K-9 tackles hot prowl suspect down steep terrain in West Hills
A K-9 took down a hot prowl suspect, tackling him down steep terrain until officers could surround him in the West Hills area.

WEST HILLS, LOS ANGELES -- A K-9 helped take down a hot prowl suspect on the run from police in California Monday afternoon.

Los Angeles police responded to the call of a hot prowler in the 7700 block of Graystone Drive and set up a perimeter near Roscoe and Valley Circle boulevards.

The suspect led officers on a foot chase over steep and rugged terrain, at one point taking his shirt off as he ran through shrubs.

A K-9 eventually caught up to the suspect, who would not give up his attempt to escape.

After several nips and bites, the K-9, named "Don," lunged and began to pull the suspect down the steep hill.

The suspect tried to run again and the K-9 pulled him down one more time.

Officers were eventually able to surround the suspect and he surrendered.

The suspect was taken away from the scene in an ambulance. Police did not confirm the extent of the suspect's injuries.

There were no injuries to the K-9 or other officers, according to officials.
