Crime Fighters: $1,000 reward offered in shooting death of Stanley Brown

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A mother is making a public plea to find her son's killer.

"He was fun loving, a big jokester. He loved to tell jokes, and make you laugh. He loved to cook, he loved his family," said Veronica Altson, mother.

Veronica Altson says the loss of her son is still felt by many.

"You know they are still saying, 'I can't believe he's gone,' " said Altson.

Just before 11 p.m. on May 23, police responded to a ShotSpotter activation along the 400 block of South 30th Street in Camden.

"ShotSpotter is microphones that are placed throughout the city of Camden. They record gunshots," said police Detective Dennis Convery, Camden Coount Prosecutor's Office.

When police arrived, they found 34-year-old Stanley Brown lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

"I have many sleepless nights about this awful deed, and I cry and my heart hurts," said Altson.

Police are looking to identify two men caught on surveillance camera in the area at the time of the shooting.

"Could you please give me some closure on this?" said Altson.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

"Someone needs to do something about all this killing, bullets, you know it's just ridiculous," said Altson.
