A bald eagle landed right where most bad guys do, in the back of a police squad car.

A bald eagle landed right where most bad guys do, in the back of a police squad car.

However, this was a rescue mission.

Dash cam video was rolling as Florida state trooper Julio Velez pulled his patrol car up on the shoulder on the Florida turnpike.

A bald eagle was just sitting on the shoulder.

The symbol of America had been hit by a vehicle.

Trooper Velez decided he needs to get the bird to treatment, right away.

Sgt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol says, "He's not quite sure how, to handle the situation, he eventually picks up the eagle, gives him a bear hug, takes him back to his patrol car and puts him in the back seat."

The bald eagle sat still in the back seat of the patrol car as Velez took it to a bird sanctuary.

Amazingly, it suffered no broken bones and will likely be free to soar the skies again.

Velez, however, now has the scars from the eagle's sharp talons to forever remember his encounter.
