Philly activates Emergency Operations Center amid SEPTA strike
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The City of Philadelphia has released its contingency plan and activated its Emergency Operations Center now that union SEPTA workers have gone on strike.
The Office of Emergency Management said it is working to coordinate city services during the SEPTA service interruption.
"The City's EOC will coordinate the shuttle bus transportation of City workers and jurors, while maintaining situational awareness of the transit disruption on traffic conditions, to ensure City government and services remain open during the strike," officials said in a statement.
Important strike information for the city was also released:
-City government will remain open for business and all employees are expected to work their standard hours of work or use accrued leave time to cover their absence.
-The Philadelphia Parking Authority has modified rates for PPA garages and parking enforcement in designated areas for the duration of the SEPTA strike. See the full list of garages and parking changes on this section of 6abc.com.
-Parking is prohibited on both sides of Broad Street, from Spring Garden to South Street.
-The City will provide a free shuttle for City employees along the Broad St line and Market Frankford line with 12 buses. All riders must show proof of city employment.
-Bus Zones may be used by any vehicle to drop-off and pick-up passengers. Vehicles may not be left unattended.
-Jurors are also allowed to take the employee shuttle with proper documentation and photo ID, and will receive direction when they call to confirm their reporting times.
-Bicycle Coalition staff and volunteers propose to set up a table and pop-up tent near the additional bike rack barricades the MSB to greet bicyclists, provide advice on city biking, distribute stickers and materials etc.
-Employees and Philadelphia residents are encouraged to sign up for ReadyPhiladelphia, the City's emergency text and email alert system to receive notification if and when SEPTA strikes
