BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. (WPVI) -- A local high school football player is being recognized for her work on and off the field.

She's only 4 feet 8 inches tall, but don't let that fool you - junior Felicia Perez is fierce.

On Wednesday, she was named the MaxPreps High School athlete of the month.

The award is presented by the United States Marine Corps.

Felicia is a middle linebacker and fullback for the varsity team at Brandywine high school.

She was overwhelmed by the honor and the support from her teammates.

"I really appreciate you guys accepting me for who I am and this is really emotional!" she said as she accepted her award.

Felicia started playing football when she was only seven.

In addition to her commitment to the team, she works 30 hours a week and volunteers at a nonprofit helping those with disabilities.
