You've heard of Straight Outta Compton? Philadanco is presenting Straight Outta Philly.

The program is a collaboration between Philadanco and the hip hop dance troupe, Pure Movement, with both companies taking the stage for a piece called Philadelphia Experiment, which relives the 1985 MOVE bombing.

"It's very, very, very moving," says Philadelphia Founder & Artistic Director Joan Myers Brown, "I think if people know the story, they get it; and if they don't know it, they want to know the story."

It was choreographed by Pure Movement founder Rennie Harris.

"He's one of the first choreographers to take hip hop from the street and put it on the stage," says Myers Brown.

Pure Movement will also perform Harris' Nuttin' but a Word.

"Which is a suite of dances he choreographed," says Myers Brown, "it is a dance form that has a genre, and there's training for hip hop."

The other half of the program is all Philadanco, "It's interjecting different styles of dance. Some of it's fast. Some of it's slow. Some of it's very moody. Some of it makes you want to cry," says Myers Brown who hopes the performance will make Philadelphians proud.

"Two different genres of dance; we thought we'd put them together and show the world what Philly has to offer, and also show Philly what Philly has to offer."

Straight Outta Philly is at the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater November 18-20.
