PORT RICHMOND (WPVI) -- A man is hospitalized after firefighters rescued him from a trash truck in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.

Crews arrived at the Speedway gas station at Castor and Aramingo avenues at 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials tell Action News the man, believed to be homeless, was sleeping in a dumpster when the container was lifted by the truck's mechanical arms, turned upside down and emptied into the truck.

They say the truck's operators heard the man after he fell out of the dumpster and called 911.

Firefighters removed the victim from the truck.

He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be okay.
