WILDWOOD, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck a 16-year-old boy in Wildwood, New Jersey.

It happened around 3:00 Saturday morning along the 200 block of West Rio Grande Avenue.

The victim, identified by family at Cody Bregande, was walking across the street with friends when he was hit.

Cody was knocked unconscious and suffered a head injury. He was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he was placed in the ICU.

"Right now we're all trying to keep a level head about it but he does have swelling in his brain, bruising, and we're just looking for the person to come forward and say what they know. The person knows that they did it, there were pieces of the car, and there were four other kids present that saw it, and other cars stopped too," said Nina Bregande, victim's sister.

The driver of the striking car did not stop at the scene. Witnesses told police the vehicle was a four-door vehicle, dark gray in color.

An investigation revealed that the victim was struck by the passenger side of the vehicle and police found plastic casing from the passenger side-view mirror at the scene.

Investigators have released photos of the casing in hopes of garnering tips.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver is urged to contact the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division at (609) 522-0222.
