PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Cheltenham High School has suspended a teacher for making racially insensitive and discriminatory comments to several students.

School district officials released a statement Wednesday, saying intimidating or hateful speech will not be tolerated.

Officials say the teacher was discussing the impact of Donald Trump's election on the Black Lives Matter movement when she allegedly told students to stop complaining about being black.

One student reportedly left the classroom in tears. Others sought out school administrators to complain about the teacher's remarks.

The school district has also provided counseling for students.
