Police are intensifying their search for a would-be kidnapper after yet another woman was targeted.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- New Castle County Police believe the man who tried to kidnap and rob a woman in Newark Monday night is the same suspect who has struck twice before.

The latest incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Preserve At Deacon's Walk (formerly The Bluffs apartments) on Sheldon Drive.

March 6, 2017: Police say a suspect tried to kidnap and rob a woman just after 6:30 p.m. at the Bluffs Apartments on Sheldon Drive in Newark, Del.

The victim told police a man wearing dark clothing approached her while she was out walking her dog.

She said the man displayed a handgun, demanded money, and forced her into her apartment.

The suspect was startled and ran off when another adult opened a door in the victim's apartment.

The victim immediately called 911. She was not hurt.

New Castle County Police say the suspect is described as 5'8" tall with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and gloves.

Detectives believe this same suspect is responsible for two other attempted kidnappings that happened last month in New Castle County.

The first happened on Feb. 13 at the Top of the Hill Apartments in North Wilmington.

A woman was kidnapped and forced to withdraw money from an ATM for her captor.

The second happened Feb. 19 at the Arundel Apartments in Pike Creek.

In that case, the female victim was forced into her apartment, where the suspect demanded money then physically and sexually assaulted her.

She was then forced to withdraw money from several ATMs.

In all three cases, the victims appear to have been targeted at random.

The fact that investigators believe the same suspect is behind each incident has left residents in the area understandably upset.
