Snow cleanup continues in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Many of the main streets in the Philadelphia are clear, but some of the side streets are still waiting to be plowed.

At 26th and Allegheny Charmaine Barnes is finally cleaning off her car. Yesterday she took the bus to work and today was left cleaning more than snow off her minivan.

She said, "I think what happened it snow, then it sleeted, then it froze."

Kids in North Philadelphia had some help from parents and their crossing guard as they carefully walked over icy sidewalks on their way to school.

In the Kensington neighborhood, parents had to pad extra time for their children's commute.

Jacquelyn Santiago of Kensington said, "Slipping and sliding the whole walk. Kids were playing with the snow. They loved it."

At 5th and Allegheny a group of women couldn't get their cars out.

"It's awful to take off the cars. It's no parking and we someone to put salt all over the streets," said Elaine Colon of Kensington.

In Manayunk, neighbors helped neighbors to push cars out of their ice covered spots.

Overnight on Gay Street off of Main Street,the driver of one car gave up.

Today main arteries like Allegheny and Market streets were clear.

Yesterday the city deployed 450 trucks to tackle snow removal city wide. The sidewalks of proactive business owners were cleared too.

Today in Center City you could see some of the pushed over snow piled high.

Tuesday much of Center City was a ghost town. Today deliveries were made, dogs were walked and commuters

skidded their way back into parking garages.

If you know of a street that needs to be plowed, you can call 311. But the city officials are asking that you not put in those recommendations until Thursday afternoon.
