Doctors, nurses, and more tuning up for Rockin' Docs concert
HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. (WPVI) -- It's a special operation, requiring perfect timing and good teamwork.
And the medical professionals who are part of that team are practicing for their big moment - on the stage at World Cafe Live.
Four local rock bands, which all include doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals will perform in the 7th annual Rockin' Docs for a Diabetes Cure concert.
The music will range from Chicago, to Sting, to Stevie Wonder, and other classic rock and pop favorites.
The concert benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The past six concerts have raised a quarter million dollars for the cause.
Rightback, which has been performing professionally for more than 20 years, is the host band.
The concert's co-founder, anesthesiologist and pain specialist Dr. Jeremy Jaffe, has a personal stake in the event.
Dr. Jaffe has Type 1 diabetes, and so do two of his children.
Other medical pros in Rightback include Ophthalmologist Dr. Barry Wasserman of Wills Eye on guitar and vocals and Paula Breslin Perry, R.N., on percussion.
The other bands performing are RD Sting, Chicago 9 (a Chicago tribute band), and Running Late.
RD Sting was assembled just for the concert of music pros, including Dr. Kenneth Einhorn of Pinnacle ENT on drums, Dr. Howard Press of Kennedy Health Alliance on saxophone, and guest artist Dr. Nicholas Taweel of Rothman Institute-Jefferson Health on bass.
