Controversial book says new moms should stay home for 3 years
A book is generating quite a controversy because the author claims that working women today are "devaluing mothering."

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A book is generating quite a controversy because the author claims that working women today are "devaluing mothering."

Erica Komisar wrote the book "Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters."

She links a recent increase in mental illness and developmental disorders in children with an increasing cultural devaluation of mothering.

Komisar says moms need to stay home with their children, not just for a few months but for a few years.

Some skeptics say staying home is not feasible for some women and that maternity leave is not always an option - it's a luxury.
