EAST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- One person is hospitalized after a crash that sent a car into a group home serving physically challenged residents in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia.

It happened before 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of West Cheltenham Avenue.

The driver of a Chevy Cobalt LS told Action News she was coming home from work and trying to move into the right lane when she lost control and collided with a red Dodge Charger.

"My steering wheel was going like this," said Brianna Colter, moving her hands back and forth. "Shaky, my wheel. Something was locked. When I moved over the car went over there."

The Charger slammed into the side of a group home for people with physical and mental challenges and hit a parked car.

Staff came running from the sister property next door.

"That car hit my car," said staffer Qualiia Hill. "So that car ran into the house and my car was in the parking lot."

Blossom Philadelphia has several dozen facilities across the area similar to the damaged home.

The group homes provide community living arrangements for people for physical and intellectual disabilities.

Three clients in the East Oak Lane home were asleep in their bedrooms when the crash happened. One of the staff members who was in the front room was hurt.

"I did have a staff member who was sitting in a chair right where car came in," said Paula Czyzewski, CEO of Blossom Philadelphia. The staff member "got pushed in the chair. She went to the hospital."

No serious injuries were reported but there's a lot of damage.

Philadelphia Licenses and Inspections has deemed the house uninhabitable at this time.

The three residents were moved to the next door home for the time being while Blossom staff arranges temporary housing for them.
