National Guardsman returns home, meets infant daughter for 1st time

OHIO -- It was a special homecoming for an Ohio National Guardsman, who met his infant daughter for the first time since she was born in December.

WSYX-TV reports that Sgt. Scott Cartwright met his four-month-old daughter Jacqueline Eloise at John Glenn International Airport on Monday. The member of the 121st Refueling Wing was deployed two-and-a-half months before his wife, Elizabeth, gave birth. The couple also has an older daughter, Nora.

"It was overwhelming. I still haven't wrapped my head around it yet," said Cartwright, who was gone for more than six months. "What I did was easy compared to what Elizabeth and my girls went through. I had one thing to do over there and that's all I had to do and she's been alone with Nora and my new girl Jax."

The family lives in Adams County. When Cartwright isn't serving his country, he works as a wildlife officer.

On Tuesday, Cartwright said he has to be in process on base, but after that "I just want to spend time with my family. I don't care what we do, I just want to be together."

Cartwright was one of 12 Ohio National Guard members who returned from deployment at John Glenn International Airport on Monday. Another serviceman surprised his girlfriend with a proposal.
