An iconic deli in Wilmington has closed its doors after more than 8 decades in business

WILMINGTON, Del (WPVI) -- An iconic deli in Wilmington has closed its doors after more than 8 decades in business.

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki was at Leo and Jimmy's as the last sandwich was served Friday afternoon.

Barbara Hackett, is the wife of the late owner Jimmy Hackett.

Her husband was a well loved man and was affectionately known as the "mayor of Market street."

Barbara Hackett says she received an offer to sell the building that she couldn't pass up.

"I would like to thank all my customers for supporting us over the years I know jimmy is down watching over us and he'd be so happy and proud"

For customers who want a piece of the popular eatery, items will be auctioned off Wednesday May 10th at 10am.
