2 women killed in Atlantic City apartment fire

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities say a two alarm apartment fire claimed the lives of two women in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

It happened around 5:00 p.m. Friday in the unit block of North Providence Avenue.

Arriving crews reported heavy smoke coming from a four story dwelling.

Firefighters found one woman's body on the third floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second woman was taken to an area hospital where she too was pronounce dead.

Authorities say other residents were rescued from the blaze. No word on any other injuries.

The fire was brought under control by 6:00 p.m.

The cause remains under investigation.
