CHICAGO, Ill. -- A team at Northwestern University has taken a big step in finding a way to restore fertility in women.

Using 3D printing, researchers have created ovaries, which enabled lab mice to have babies.

The manufactured ovaries are scaffolds made of gelatin, with eggs embedded in them.

With the replacement ovaries, the mice ovulated, and delivered healthy pups.

Northwestern's team leader says the success could be a big step in helping women regain fertility they've lost during cancer therapy.
