UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- A driver was taken into custody after hitting a Drexel University student early Saturday morning in the University City section of Philadelphia.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, is hospitalized in critical condition.

She was hit by a Lexus around 1 a.m. as she tried to cross 38th and Market in University City.

Police say the student was walking against a red light at the time she was hit.

The driver stopped after the incident and remained at the scene.

She was initially taken into custody but has since been released.

The names of those involved have not been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
