NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection to an arson that forced three adults and four children out of their home.

The suspect is identified as 35-year-old John Copes from the 4800 block of Darrah Street.

15th District Police responded to the 1700 block Brill Street around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13 for a report of a fire with people trapped inside.

Upon arrival, officers saw the rear wooden deck of the home engulfed in flames.

Officers evacuated those inside of the house which included three adults and four children.

Officers extinguished the fire as the Philadelphia Fire Department responded to the scene.

Police say prior threats had been made to a victim in the home from a former significant other.

A gas can was recovered during the initial investigation

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
