LIMEKILN, Pa. (WPVI) -- The Buddy Rescue Foundation has one mission.

"To operate as a safety net for animals that had no alternative... We would step in and prevent them from being euthanized and get them the medical care they need and find a home for them."

Founder and President Barbara Smith started the rescue 10 years ago after her once-stray dog, Buddy, passed.

"He kind of jumped in my husband's car from the street, came into our home," said Smith. "Unfortunately, when he passed away the house was silent. And so we created Buddy Rescue in his honor."

In every dog they rescue, there's a little bit of Buddy.

"He was a stray and there was no safety net for him. That's the kind of dog that we rescue," said Smith.

The rescue is foster-based and helps about 100 animals a year.

"We try and help the ones we know we can find homes for once they are well and have been rehabilitated," Smith said.
