Burmese Python found in Grays Ferry, returned to owner

The snake that caused a scare in a Philadelphia neighborhood is back home Wednesday night with his rightful owner.

Neighbors found an unusual Fourth of July reveler in the Grays Ferry section.

The Action Cam was in the 2300 block of Tasker Street Tuesday night as police bagged a 9-foot boa constrictor.

A man named Norman told Action News someone spotted the snake in the flower bed in front of his home.

"I got a phone call, somebody thought I got a snake, ain't got no snakes, don't play with snakes," added Norman.

Norman who goes by Norman of 23d and Tasker was in for a surprise, outside in the begonias was indeed a snake.

911 was called after some consultation, a Sergeant put on gloves and went into action.

In one swift move, one snake ends up in one bag and then a second bag.

The snake heads to THE ACCT Philly, an animal shelter.

Audra Houghton the shelter's director of operations says the snake is pretty calm, and is someone's pet.

And a person has come forward to claim the snake, and planned to pick the python up around 6 p.m.

Houghton says if not well cared for a snake can become aggressive or scared but this one seems comfortable with people

He is a Burmese Python at 12 pounds and 7 to 8 feet long, a relative baby. The species can reach 200 pounds and 20 feet in length.

The details on how the snake ended up the flower bed is unclear.
