NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- A man had to be rescued from a work site 80 feet above the ground in New Castle, Delaware.

It happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 300 block of Cherry Lane.

Crews secured the man onto a stretcher after he suffered a back injury on a large tower at the CRODA chemical company.

In a statement CRODA says, "This morning while working on the new construction at the Atlas Point facility, a contract employee experienced a back issue while climbing a ladder to a high structure. This person could not descend safely without assistance so a rescue team was called in by the local authorities."

He was slowly lowered down to the ground using a rope system.

"That high angle rescue was performed by local authorities. The individual is being transported to a hospital for assessment and any necessary treatment," the statement read.
